Tungsten carbide cobalt (WC-Co) is a well-known cermet material which is extensively being used as a wear resistant coating in several industries.  A large number of deposition techniques such as plasma spraying methods and flame spraying technologies have been employed by industries to deposit WC-Co coatings. The characteristics and performance of WC-Co coating significantly depends on the utilized deposition technique. Cold Spraying (CS) in one hand due to its high velocity deposition condition; in the other, because of brittle characteristics of WC-Co particles, does not seem as an appropriate technique to deposit this type of coating. However, WC-Co coatings have recently been successfully deposited using a specific CS technology known as Kinetic Metallization (KM). In this study important mechanical characteristics of CS deposited WC-Co coating is investigated using a variety of numerical simulations in addition to mechanical tests and experiments. The effectivity of CS method to develop high performance coating of WC-Co in comparison with traditional deposition methods such as High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) and High Velocity Air Fuel HVAF will be studied as well. The influence of microstructural characteristics on mechanical properties of the CS deposited coating is also investigated in this study.
